God Speaks in Creation

by Koryn Hutchison

(God doesn't just speak to us in the written word; He often uses other creatives processes, including photography.)

I recently photographed an owl’s nest and captured the mama on it. About two weeks later, the nest fell…70 feet to the forest floor with the newly hatched chicks in it. Some bird rehabilitation experts fashioned a new nest that looked like a basket, and they wired it back to the place where the original nest had been. The mother didn’t reject her babies! She stayed faithfully nearby, feeding them every night and fending off the predatory crows.

I waited 4 1/2 hours one day for one of the owlets to pop his head over the edge of the basket. Finally, one of them did! Then, ten days later, I returned and found both siblings flapping their wings, practicing to fly, but not yet fledged. I hear now that they are fully fledged and hunting on their own.

There are many spiritual lessons to be found here.

Psalm 91:4 is one example: “He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.”
