February 8-14, 2026

As we reflect this month, we’ll spend intentional time in John chapter 1, slowing down to encounter not just what God has done, but who He is.

The Gospel of John was written with a unique purpose. Rather than focusing primarily on miracles or events, John consistently points us to God’s identity and character. Pay attention as you read to His eternal nature, His nearness, and His light. John’s account centers largely around Jerusalem, which is why you may notice stories or details that differ from the synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, and Luke), which highlight other regions and perspectives. John had a focus: revealing God’s heart. As you pray and reflect this month, allow yourself to move slowly. Let these verses shape not just your understanding of God, but your trust in Him. Let’s dive in.

This week's focus: The Word, the Light, the Beginning

This week's Bible reading: John 1:1–5

Day 1: Take a moment to visualize “the beginning.” What images, emotions, or questions surface? Read Genesis 1:1–2 alongside John 1. What similarities do you notice? What does this tell you about God’s presence before anything else existed?

Day 2: What does John mean by “the Word”? Why do you think he chose this title to open his Gospel? Sit with the idea that Jesus is not just spoken by God but is God revealed.

Day 3: John reminds us that everything was made by God and through God. What comfort or confidence does this give you today? Where might you need to trust His authority or creativity in your own life?

Day 4: John says that life is found in Him. Where do you recognize your life being rooted in Christ? Where might you be striving, coping, or living outside of Him?

Day 5: “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”. What area of darkness (fear, uncertainty, grief, or doubt) needs God’s light today? Invite Him into that space honestly.

Challenge: What aspect of God’s character stands out to you in this opening passage: His eternity, His nearness, His creativity, His light, His faithfulness? Make a conscious effort this week to reflect that part of God’s character in your words, posture, and interactions. Let your life echo what you are learning about Him.
