June 15-21, 2025
Recently, I hiked through the Shenandoah Mountains and came across a stunning row of Mountain Laurels. These shade-loving bushes burst with fragrant pink blossoms near the clearings—it felt like a glimpse of Heaven. As I walked, I thought of Zechariah’s vision where the Lord appears among the Myrtle Trees. I wondered—what if Jesus had appeared to me there among the Mountain Laurels? In Zechariah 1, the angel of the Lord says messengers found no one faithful—people were comfortable while others suffered. But in verse 16, God promises mercy, restoration, and a measured plan for His people. That measuring line reminds me: God has a purpose, and He invites us into it. Even now, His angels are seeking faithful messengers—those who will carry His message, care for others, and extend mercy. So I ask: How is God inviting you to be a messenger of mercy? Read the passage throughout this month and seek to be challenged by the Lord on ways you can share His message, care for others, and extend mercy to those in your path.
This week's Bible reading: Zechariah 1:1-21
Focus Verses: Zechariah 1:11-17
Theme: Mercy
Day 1: In verse 11, it says, the angels roamed around and found the people in a state of rest and peace. Do you think this was a good thing or a not so good thing? (Hint: read ahead to verses 14-15)
Day 2: Thank God today for His grace in this season of the world. We are a mess and He is withholding His final judgement to give people a season to repent and turn to Him.
Day 3: Part of God’s character is that He speaks kind and comforting words to His people even when He’s angry (as shown in verse 13). What kind and comforting words could He be speaking to you today?
Day 4: In verse 16, God says the measuring line will be stretched out. In this case, the measuring line is a tool used to outline the city’s boundaries, buildings, and other structures. What do you use for a measuring line in your daily walk? God’s Word, prayer, relationships, community, etc? Is there anything you are using that doesn’t benefit your life for God’s values? What worldly measures have krept in?
Day 5: God says He will rebuild and restore the places His people inhabit. What does He need to rebuild and restore in your life? Your home? Your community?
Challenge: Practice being merciful this week. Who do you need to forgive or accept? Is there someone who you were judgemental towards - even in your thoughts? Look for ways to extend unexpected grace to someone in your path.
