July 12-18, 2026
As we navigate the busy summer season, we look to Scripture for true refreshment. While summer often brings vacations, activities, and full calendars, it can also leave little room for intentional time with God. Before we know it, our days are filled with errands, social media, family commitments, and all the adulting responsibilities that come with everyday life.
Sometimes the deepest refreshment comes not from adding something to our schedules, but from setting something aside in order to draw closer to God. If you've been feeling distracted, hurried, or spiritually depleted, God may be inviting you into the practice of fasting.
This month, we'll spend time in Isaiah 58, exploring God's heart for fasting and discovering how this spiritual discipline can help us refocus, renew our faith, and deepen our relationship with Him.
This week's focus: Fasting
This week's Bible reading: Isaiah 58:3-7
Day 1: Exploitation is a big word - look up the definition and ask God to search your heart. Is there anyone in your midst you have harmed? How have you done as you pleased?
Day 2: Sometimes spiritual practices get distorted. Have you had anyone place a yolk upon you that wasn't from God or His Word? What happened. Journal about the experience.
Day 3: How have you fasted before? What might you do differently as you have read this passage? Make a visual representation of the past and future of fasting.
Day 4: God intends to loose chains of injustice, untie cords, and break us free. Bring your lament (Biblical complaint) and ask Him to remind you of what He is able to do in your life.
Day 5: Who has fed you when you have been hungry? Given to you when you were in need. Take some time to thank them in your coming and going this week.
Challenge: Who might you come across this week in need - poor, hungry, naked, or emotionally in need. Ask God how you might serve them physically, materially, or emotionally.
