May 18-25, 2025
Considering that we recently celebrated Easter, let us reflect on the impact of Jesus’ sacrifice through the freedom His right standing followers receive through His death, burial, and resurrection. Having been released from the things that once held us captive like shame, fear, legalism and condemnation, spiritual freedom can be enjoyed each day.
This week's Bible reading: Colossians 2
Focus Verses: “If you have died with Christ to the elementary principles of the world, why, as if you were living in the world, do you submit yourself to decrees, such as, “Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch!” (which all refer to things destined to perish with use)—in accordance with the commandments and teachings of man? These are matters which do have the appearance of wisdom in self-made religion and humility and severe treatment of the body, but are of no value against fleshly indulgence.” (Colossians 2:20-23).
Focus Theme: Freedom from Legalism
Day 1: We are Saved by Grace (Ephesians 2:8-9)
Legalism compels us to “Do more,” while grace says “it is finished,”. Today, rest in the fact that your salvation is a gift received through faith.
Pray for God to help you let go of striving and help you to rest in Christ’s finished work on the cross.
Day 2: Spirit Over Letter (2 Corinthians 3:6)
Rules without the Spirit leads to death.
Invite God to give you a heart of love to guide your daily decisions.
Day 3: Love Fulfills the Law (Galatians 5:14)
Jesus simplified the law into love. Choose to act in love rather than fear or obligation.
Ask God to show you a time when you acted in fear or obligation and consider how you could have responded in a more loving way.
Day 4: Let Go of Man-Made Rules (Matthew 15:9)
Human standards often distract us from the heart of God. Seek God’s truth over traditions.
Think of a time when you added to God’s Word. Repent if you have not already done so. Ask God to free you from man-made burdens.
Day 5: Christ Fulfilled the Law (Romans 10:4)
Jesus did not abolish the law; He fulfilled it. Righteousness is found in Him, not in rule-keeping.
Thank Jesus for fulfilling what you could never do.
