April 19-25, 2026
This month, we are focusing on some beautiful women of the Bible. We are drawn to their stories because they are flawed just like us. They have both weaknesses and strengths that shape their lives. We will see where they fall short and where they seek the Lord and the wisdom of others.
Each week, we will learn about a different woman’s character through selected Scripture passages. Over four weeks, we will get to know Rebekah, Leah, Hannah, and Abigail. If you have not studied the women of the Bible, you are in for a meaningful and enriching exploration of leadership.
Also, the Twelve Women of the Bible study is available on streaming platforms, so you can watch the videos after you read and spend time in your own prayer and reflection.
This week's focus: Hannah
This week's Bible reading: 1 Samuel 1:1-20
Day 1: Read 1 Samuel and note your observations, your questions, and your initial applications. Connect with the characters. Reading the chapters aloud, or listening to an audio format, may help the story come alive.
Day 2: Everyone has experienced a season of waiting. What was that like for you? Were you confident in God or doubtful/skeptical? What way do you lean in times of uncertainty?
Day 3: How do you feel about God using hard things to shape and form us? What is your experience with "suffering well"? What emotions bubble up for you? Take them to God today. Maybe some things are buried under the surface of anger. Try to untangle the truth. If you are struggling to do that on your own, call a friend and invite them to listen and pray.
Day 4: Hannah cried out to God in her distress. What area do you need to "let God have it?" One of our old pastors used to say, "Give God your angry. He can handle it. But be cautious. Don't stay angry. He's waiting for you."
Day 5: What area of your life have you been wishing for a change but it hasn't come? Ask God to meet you in the middle and show you how to be present with Him right in the messy place.
Challenge: Take a garbage bag and a small canvas or paper. Pick some paints that represent the colors of your emotions. Red for anger. Orange for worry/anxiety. Blue for grief. Then, fill your paint brush with paint and water and "throw" the paint on the canvas or paper. Letting those emotions loose. If you don't want to get that messy, you can do this imaginatively and it can be just as effective. Throw on a song that makes you "feel" and release the stuff that has been buried in the waiting.
