The theme of home surfaces throughout the Bible. Sometimes Scripture reassures us that when we build our homes on Christ, we can flourish. Other times, it reminds us that this world is not our ultimate home, to not cling too tightly to this life. The feeling of home comes from a sense of safety, comfort, and belonging, all of which come from God Himself.
As we explore this theme throughout the month, we would usually focus on one passage. But because home is such a rich and layered theme in Scripture, we will look at many passages to discover what God has to say about home.
This week's focus: Home Is Strong and Prayerful
This week's Bible reading: Hebrews 13:14
Day 1: Isaiah 28:16
The Lord is the cornerstone of a strong home. Take a look at your foundation. Where might it be off-kilter? What have you built your home upon that may need to be realigned with Him?
Day 2: Matthew 7:25
Sometimes the world creeps in and weakens our foundations. What feels like a bit of sinking sand in your life right now? Finances? Work-life balance? Food or drink choices? Emotional outbursts? Take an honest inventory and invite God into those places.
Day 3: Proverbs 24:3–4
“What are some rare and beautiful treasures” in your home? Look around and notice what God has given you. Count your blessings today.
Day 4: Deuteronomy 6:5–7
How are you carrying His commandments into your home? Consider the ones you are living out well and the ones where you may need to grow. How can you more intentionally weave His Word into the rhythms of your home?
Day 5: Isaiah 56:7
How is your house a house of prayer? What would it look like for prayer to become a more natural part of your home?
Challenge: Consider how much you pray for those in your household. What would it look like to intentionally pray over your home for 10, 20, or 30 days? Ask the Lord to move in your household in new ways and to help you consistently pray for your people.
