The theme of home surfaces throughout the Bible. Sometimes Scripture reassures us that when we build our homes on Christ, we can flourish. Other times, it reminds us that this world is not our ultimate home, to not cling too tightly to this life. The feeling of home comes from a sense of safety, comfort, and belonging, all of which come from God Himself.
As we explore this theme throughout the month, we would usually focus on one passage. But because home is such a rich and layered theme in Scripture, we will look at many passages to discover what God has to say about home.
This week's focus: This World Is NOT Our Home
This week's Bible reading: Hebrews 13:14
Day 1: John 14:1–2
Jesus tells us that He is preparing a place for us. Picture your rooms in Heaven. What do you see? What do you imagine it will feel like to finally be home?
Day 2: Revelation 21:4
He will remove death, sorrow, and all pain. What ails you in this life? Bring those things to Him and invite Him to show you how they will one day be redeemed.
Day 3: Philippians 3:20
Our citizenship is in Heaven. What does allegiance to Heaven look like in your everyday life?
Day 4: 2 Corinthians 5:1–5
What are your burdens and groanings? Name them. Give them to God today. What are you longing for that reminds you this world is not your final home?
Day 5: Psalm 91:1–2
He is our shelter, refuge, and fortress, not the earth or even our own home. Remind yourself of this truth when life feels like shifting sand. He is faithful.
Challenge: Think about Heaven. What will you most look forward to? What ways can you bring a glimpse of Heaven to earth? Spend some time on your back porch or take a walk at night. Look up at the stars and pray. Allow yourself to wonder about the home God is preparing for you. Ask Him to show you what longing for Heaven looks like in this life and to teach you new ways to live from that longing.
